As interior designers and decorators, we design and integrate screen walls into our customer projects to structure spaces with elegance. These openwork partitions are an alternative to solid walls, allowing areas to be delineated without visually weighing down volumes. That's the strength of interior screen walls: to mark out spaces while preserving light and openness.
What is a claustra? And here, an indoor claura?

An interior claustra is an openwork partition, often made of wood, metal or another material, which separates spaces without creating a complete division.
Unlike traditional walls, they offer a play of transparency and let light through, giving rooms an airy, modern look. Clerestories are available in a wide range of styles, from classic to contemporary, to suit all types of interior.
At Maison Tcheniowe imagine and design claustras. This allows us to offer our customers a personalized piece of work, adapted to their interior. As you can see in the photo above, the screen separating the dining room from the kitchen blends perfectly with the room. Voir le projet.
Why choose an interior screen?
An aesthetic and functional solution
The interior claustra is as decorative as it is practical. It helps structure space by creating a light, elegant separation. Whether for a living room, hallway or bedroom, claustra adds character and subtly delimits areas without totally partitioning them. As we said earlier, it's a real eye-catcher. œuvre d’art !
A plus for brightness
Do you have a small apartment? A small room? A house with little natural light? Cladding is your best ally! Unlike solid walls, interior claustras let light through, making them a perfect choice for small spaces or dark rooms. They help maintain a bright atmosphere while defining functional zones.
A unique decorative element
A successful claustra must blend in perfectly with your interior. Clerestories come in a variety of materials and styles, and can be chosen for their aesthetic impact. From natural wood for a warm touch to metal for an industrial touch, they add a unique and personal touch to interior design. You can call on an interior designer, for example, to advise you on the type of screen you need. Contact us for more information.
How can an interior screen be integrated into different rooms?
In the lobby for a warm welcome
An interior screen is an ideal solution for structuring an entrance without weighing it down. I particularly like to use them to add a decorative touch right from the doorstep, while keeping the space bright. For example, a natural wood screen can create a warm ambience, while a black metal model adds a contemporary touch. What I also like is the possibility of making it functional: integrating coat hooks or a small shelf for keys or decorative objects. The entrance sets the tone for the house, and a well thought-out screen can transform this often neglected space into a real asset.
In the living room to define spaces
The living room is a room in which interior cladding comes into its own. Whether to separate a dining area from a relaxation area, or to create a subtle transition between the living room and an open kitchen, it provides structure without partitioning. I love playing with styles: a light wood claustra for a Scandinavian interior, or an openwork metal model for an industrial look. This type of partition adds character to the room while allowing light to circulate. And to enhance the decorative aspect, you can choose a claustra with geometric patterns or made-to-measure cut-outs, which become a real work of art in your interior.
In a bedroom for a dressing area or office
The bedroom is a space where we're always looking to maximize functionality without compromising aesthetics. An interior screen is perfect for separating a dressing area or study from the rest of the room, without creating a massive partition. I like to use screens that add a certain lightness, such as thin wooden slats or airy metal structures. In addition to delimiting spaces, they add real aesthetic value to the room. Imagine a discreet dressing room behind a natural wood screen: it becomes a functional area while contributing to the overall harmony of the room.
In a bathroom for a spa effect
For me, an indoor screen is the perfect ally for a bathroom. It separates a shower or bathtub from the rest of the room, while maintaining a fluid flow of air and light. I like to use materials that resist humidity, such as metal or treated wood, and favor simple designs for a Zen ambiance. Imagine a light wood screen between a bathtub and a storage area: not only does it create a spa effect, it also adds a natural, soothing touch. It's an elegant way of structuring the room while accentuating its warm character.
What material should you choose for an interior screen?
Wood for a warm touch
Wood is undoubtedly my favorite material for interior cladding. It brings a natural warmth and blends perfectly with a variety of atmospheres. For a project in a country house, I chose a claustra in light oak to delimit the entrance and the living room. With its thin, vertical slats, it added visual structure while remaining lightweight. Wood is also ideal for Scandinavian styles: imagine a birch or bleached pine screen that brings softness and serenity to a space. What I love about wood is its versatility: depending on the species and finish, it can be rustic, contemporary or even designer.
Metal for industrial style
Metal claustras are perfect for creating an industrial or modern look. For an urban loft in Marseille, I worked on a project where a matt black metal screen separated the open-plan kitchen from the living room. The metal's geometric cut-outs added a real graphic touch to the space, while remaining functional. What I like about metal is the possibility of playing with finishes: black for a strong contrast, brass for a chic touch or even colored shades to add an original touch. It's an excellent option for contemporary interiors or for rooms where you're looking for a striking effect.
Glass for a luminous, uncluttered look
Glass, combined with wood or metal uprights, is an elegant and discreet solution. It's perfect for spaces where you want to delimit without weighing things down. For a downtown loft in Aix-en-Provence, I chose a fluted glass screen with gilded metal uprights to separate the dining room from the living room. This choice allowed me to structure the space while letting in a maximum amount of light. What I like about glass is its ability to adapt to modern, minimalist styles. With a well thought-out structure, it becomes a design element while remaining functional.
Where to buy and how to install an indoor screen?
Interior claustras can be purchased from specialist decorating stores or joinery manufacturers. While some models are ready-to-install, others require more complex installation, especially when integrated into custom projects or specific areas such as a bathroom.
